FAQ

Is it expensive ?

Typically the costs are similar per hour to London based Physiotherapy treatment, but as the sessions are open ended, pro rata our sessions tend to work out cheaper than say 2 x 30 minutes of Physiotherapy.

Is it suitable for me?

DBC based treatment will benefit most patients who have suffered lower back or neck pain for more than 6 weeks, or who are suffering from more severe injuries. It is a scientifically proven method whereby people in pain can function significantly better and decrease their pain levels.

DBC has helped very long term sufferers and those for whom surgery has not been effective.

What does the treatment involve?

All patients are given an initial assessment, which may last 90 minutes, which involves: a physical examination by a chartered physiotherapist; a questionnaire; and testing of your range of motion and if appropriate your muscular endurance.

The assessment determines whether DBC treatment is likely to be able to help you, and if so, a customised programme is developed. The programme usually involves 2 treatment sessions of around 60 minutes per week, the duration of treatment depending on the patient’s specific needs, using the specially designed DBC machines.

What is DBC ?

The DBC ProcessDBC is a system that was originally developed in Scandinavia over 15 years ago. A group of Finland's most respected scientists & medical doctors came together to investigate a means of accurately assessing physical injuries in order to firstly classify them, & then develop treatments highly specific to each injury. To this end, a series of very specialised medical devices were developed to assist in the assessment process.

The process is simple:
First the patient undergoes a very accurate assessment. The assessment includes measurement with the DBC devices which provide facts & figures on the injury, and defines the extent of the problem.

All the patient's information is then entered into our DBC software, which compares each patient's findings with normal, and together with the DBC physiotherapist, puts together a treatment plan. Treatment duration is dependant on the patient’s problem and the severity of their condition.

Following the Treatment Program, an Outcome Assessment is carried out to examine the level of improvement, & plan a long-term maintenance program to ensure the patient's pain does not return.

Will my private medical insurance cover it?

Generally private medical insurance policies cover it within any annual limit for outpatient physiotherapy treatment.

Increasingly employers are willing to pay for treatment to assist an early return to work – consult your occupational health department.

Some Primary Care Trusts are considering funding DBC treatment where it may be an alternative to surgery.

How does it work ?

DBC treatment is exercise based. The specially designed machines isolate specific muscles, and allow you to exercise these muscles within a controlled range of motion and loading. Exercising muscles in this way reverses the vicious circle of pain leading to those in pain not using muscles, leading to weaker muscles and more pain, into a virtuous circle of using muscles, strengthening them and reducing pain. Unlike free exercise, the DBC machines enable the deep spine muscles to be activated. The exercises are supervised by a physiotherapist.
